Creekside Village Launch

April 1st saw the celebration of Lewisham Council's approval for planning and development of the Creekside Village, a scheme to regenerate parts of Deptford’s river. Architects Menachem Oren and Jeff Shapiro’s celebration could not have been at a better venue for architecture and to view London’s cityscape than the 7th floor of the Tate Modern.

This event proves that large scale developers and the community can start to build stronger links with one another, and possibly celebrating the local annual festival – ‘Made in Deptford’ in July 2008 together. The developers of the Creekside Village genuinely supports local interests and, in the true spirit of community, has planned the intergration of a large communal park as well as the blending of commercial, private, and community spaces into the mix of stimulating architecture.

I would like to thank all those I met during the celebration, and more to the point Andrew and Brigid of the Creative Lewisham Agency – a key allie and a part of the ‘chrome soldiers’ in the wealthfare of the local creative community. www.thecreeksidevillage.co.uk
